Overview
About the project
My QueenSquare is a Toronto-based estate agent specialising in property rentals. The project involved a full redesign of 5 pages — including a pop-up ad, contact form, custom icons, and property listing pages showing location and utilities information. Performance was a key concern: homepage images were compressed from 600–700kb down to under 200kb, and the main banner was reoriented to keep all key elements within the viewport.

Challenge & Approach
Speed, clarity, and conversion.
The Challenge
Performance as a priority
The site suffered from slow page loading speeds caused by oversized images — homepage images were running at 600–700kb, creating a poor user experience especially on mobile. The redesign needed to address performance without compromising the visual quality needed to showcase properties effectively.
The Approach
Elementor + custom code
Elementor was used as the primary page builder, with custom HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for elements beyond its capabilities. Images were compressed aggressively — reducing file sizes from 600–700kb to under 200kb. The main banner image was reoriented to keep all key elements visible within the viewport, making an immediate positive impact on load speeds.

Key Findings
What worked, what I’d change.
What Worked Well
The image optimisation work had an immediate and measurable impact on page loading speeds — a quick win that improved the overall user experience significantly. The Elementor build gave the client an easy-to-manage CMS for updating property listings independently.
What I’d Do Differently
Starting with a performance audit before the design phase would have flagged the image weight issue earlier. Building performance budgets into the brief from day one means optimisation happens by default rather than as a post-build fix.
